Historical Reenactment of the Diploma Ottonianum in Lazise, and other events
There are many events scheduled for the next days in Lazise and its surroundings, where you will enjoy the unique atmosphere of Lake Garda. There's not just landscapes, hikes or bike rides, but also various wine-and-food events, markets, cultural and international gatherings.
For those who love markets, the Antique Market in Desenzano, a half-hour away from Hotel Smeraldo, takes place every first Sunday of the month and is one of the best market-exhibitions in Italy for antique furniture. If you prefer local products and food-and-wine traditions Bardolino is the place to be: from the 19th to the 22nd of April there's the Viale dei Sapori. On the lakeside the stalls of local wines and food will stay open all day long for tastings and shopping.
On Saturday, May 4th and Sunday 5th, Lazise will host the spectacular Historical Reenactment of the Diploma Ottonianum. In 983 the emperor granted Lazise the administrative autonomy, and thus established Italy's first autonomous municipality, or “comune”. The highlight of the celebration will be on Sunday at 11:45 AM in Vittorio Emanuele square, when the “Privilegium Ottonis II” will be read aloud at the presence of the walk-on actors in disguise.
And don't forget: on May 15th the Mille Miglia will pass through Desenzano. It is the world's most beautiful car race, with 430 cars that have made the history of automobile design, in a joyous and elegant atmosphere.
